The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing replay systems.
Replay technology will be launched at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Athletes are granted the right to question certain calls from the official, echoing the practice already in place at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This step follows just a season following the All England Club rolled out ELC, which effectively ended the longstanding role of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the official to review specific situations, such as:
- If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- If a ball touched an rival's racket or body during play.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a competitor can initiate.
A Recent Example
A recent example took place in a recent tournament last week, where a top player used the video challenge against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a tough situation for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled the player was guilty of hindrance, granting the rally to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not new for Grand Slams. It has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit will have video reviews implemented at all of its tournaments.
Other Changes
Another innovation at The Championships this year will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This addresses situations where fans have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was in or out.
In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have further announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
