Together Can Be Streamed, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Relationship.

We present a test for long-term couples who appreciate scary movies: Settle in with your partner and stream Together. The independent film success of 2025 has now made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. At first glance, it could look like standard biological terror, but inside Together lies a profound meditation about how we choose to love one another.

An Introductory Film Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, partners that have been together for a decade. Having wed in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a particular energy to their characters, skillfully embodying both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The story commences when Millie and Tim relocate from the metropolis to the country for Millie’s job. A familiar story element, admittedly, but that’s largely where the conventions cease. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their country house, a storm hits, and the two tumble into an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity starts to affect the duo. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes far beyond emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a methodically building fright fest, blending bits of hallucinatory nightmares, gross (but never too gross) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes amidst something disturbing). Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and feeling of intimacy is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and removed from his support system. He dreads the idea of completely losing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie never makes one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

The couple confront the sort of issues that come with long-term unions after ten years. At their core, they still love each other. They still laugh together, offer support, and share intimately at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their future together.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together symbolize these concerns of codependency and fully committing to another person, the metaphor avoids being hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes offer a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. On the other hand, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could act as a telling indicator of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale inspire anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your other half and say, “I’d do that for you”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can undertake at this very moment.
